The paramount chief of the Busunu Traditional Area, Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II has successfully launched the Busunuwura Education Endowment Fund on the eve of his annual Damba festival celebration at his palace, on Saturday 7th November, 2020.
On 4th January, 2019, he was successfully enskinned as the chief and leader of the traditional area.
In his welcome address read by a sub-chief, Fariwura Jakpa Adam, the Busunuwura called on all citizens in and around the area to contribute meaningfully to support the fund.
On my coronation day, I outlined a number of initiatives that I commit myself to roll out. Critical among them is promotion of education through the establishment of education endowment fund. Since then I’ve been working with relevant stakeholders in this traditional area to make this a reality. I expect that after it’s launch all of us will support the fund and make contributions to it so that we can support the Education of the less privileged in the traditional area, he appealed.
One key focus area of our development in the Busunu area is the promotion of education and establishment of a senior high School. I therefore, wish to appeal especially to H.E the president of the Republic of Ghana to consider this idea by our people as a priority and support to ensure that Busunu gets an SHS as early as possible.
The five (5) member Interim Management Committee (IMC) appointed by the chief to manage the Busunuwura Education Endowment Fund consist of the following.
Mr. Samuel K.K Ntobah ( Former Headmaster, Bole Senior High School), Mrs. Alice Nartey (Managing Director, Extee Chrystal Hotel), Miss Mary Korsah ( educationist and gender activists), Mr. Moro Jindayu ( Lecturer, University of Education, Winneba) and Mr. Haruna Nsorwura (Teacher, Damongo Senior High School).
The Education Endowment Fund was launch by Fr. Fusheini Daniel, on behalf of the Bishop of the Damongo Diocese, Most Rev. Peter Paul A Angkyier. He pledged an amount of GHc1,500.
Damongo Constituency MP and NDC Parliamentary candidate, Adam Mutawakilu Garlus made a cash donation of GHc2,000 and pledged GHc5,000 annual contribution to the fund. He explained that John Mahama said he will personally visit the chief and contribute massively to the fund.
NPP Parliamentary candidate and Deputy Chief of Staff, Samuel Abu Jinapor made a pledge of GHc3,000 and said the president of Ghana will be making a donation of GHc10,000 to the fund.
The Independent candidate, David Tikiki Dange was not present. He has traveled and will make his contribution known when he returns.
Busunuwura Monasa Jonokpowu II reminded his subjects that there is huge task ahead of them, saying ” as we celebrate this festival we should be aware that there is a job ahead of us, a job to bring accelerated development to the Busunu area. A job that requires the collective effort of all of us. Remember the contribution of each and every one of you is important. My arms are opened to receive and consider input and contribution from every well-meaning person or group of persons for the good of our land “.
As a peace maker, the chief urged the people of the area not to allow politics divide them. The unity built over the years must be sustained.
Monasa Jonokpowu II expressed gratitude to His Excellency the president of Ghana, the former President John mahama, the representatives of His Grace, the Bishop of Damongo Diocese.
He thanked leadership of all the political parties, heads of departments, honourable assembly members, the youth and the Busunu professionals.
The chief also expressed gratitude to all the three (3) parliamentary candidates competing for the Damongo Constituency seat for their immense contribution towards the celebration. Adam Mutawakilu Garlus of the NDC, Samuel Abu Jinapor of the NPP and David Tikiki Dange, the Independent candidate.
He congratulated Savannah FC for emerging as champions of the Gala matches and also commended the Busunu Professionals, chiefs, Queen mothers and elders of the traditional area, the settler farmers and citizens of the traditional area as well as the Fulani herdsmen who have all contributed their part to the celebration.
The week long anniversary celebration was marked with clean up exercises, health screening and education, football gala competition among others.
To help grace the anniversary were the MCE for West Gonja, Saeed Muhazu Jibreel, political party constituency executives, security agencies, heads of departments, clergy, chiefs and Queen mothers, among others.
