Electricity is the main winner of elections in the savanna region, Hon Salifu Braimah the regional minister for Savanna region who doubles as the Member of Parliament for the Salaga south constituency said this when the Deputy Minister for Energy Hon Awureko Aido came to launch the electrification project that is set to start immediately after the launching in the savanna region for about 30 communities in six district.
“We those contesting elections we know how important electricity means to our survival, we are very happy that the powerful Ministry, Ministry of energy is here with a very powerful contractors. Hon Salifu said “I can now sleep and sleep very well.”
He said, Savanna region is one of the list regions that has its communities connected to the national grid which has captured the president attention, he added that the coming of Hon Awureko Aido is a welcoming news for the people of savanna region. The minister wished that the coming of the Deputy Minister for energy was last year because ‘when it is an election year and you are to do anything, people don’t believe it and think that it is done for political gains just to convince people to vote for them to power.
He assured the people that his government that is the NPP government don’t deceive people because the government knows how important electricity means to our people and this should not be about politics or should not be used as propaganda , barley three months to elections people might agitate but he assured the communities they should take it serious.
The electrification is to be connected to 30 communities in six districts of the savanna region and 1745 households are to benefit, the districts are North Gonja, Central Gonja, East Gonja, West Gonja, Bole Sawla Tuna Kaliba inclusive.
The project is to last for 24 months, funded by the government of Ghana and has been secured, all processes including Cabinet, Parliament Approval and Contract Agreement has been secured. The project is to cost the government US$50 million for three regions, Northern, North East and Savanna Region.
